Who is your Health Hero?

Nominations are now open for the UK’s only dedicated awards scheme to celebrate the healthcare support workforce

Do you know a support worker in the NHS who deserves national recognition for their dedication? Perhaps you’re one yourself?

Then the Our Health Heroes awards, organised by UNISON, in partnership with Skills for Health and the National Skills Academy for Health, could be just the thing for you.

Nominations are now open for the UK’s only dedicated awards scheme to celebrate the healthcare support workforce, recognising and promoting the significant contribution they make to the health sector.

We know that the support workforce is crucially important in the delivery of patient care and are significant contributors in the effective delivery of healthcare practice and we want to celebrate the work they do. So please help spread the word.

This year’s categories for Our Health Heroes Awards 2016:

Clinical Support Worker of the Year 2016:

  • Healthcare assistants
  • Assistant practitioners
  • Dietetic assistants
  • Maternity support workers
  • Occupational therapy support workers
  • Orthotic technicians
  • Physiotherapy assistants
  • Podiatry assistants
  • Prosthetic technicians
  • Radiography assistanst and imaging support assistants
  • Speech and language therapy assistants

Operational Services Support Worker of the Year 2016

  • Secretarial roles
  • Administration
  • Porters
  • Cleaning occupations
  • Kitchen and catering staff
  • Play workers
  • Maintenance workers
  • Drivers
  • Security/Parking workers

The Our Health Heroes Awards 2016 cover all 12 UNISON regions across the UK. Two winners will be selected from each region, one for each award. All our regional winners will be invited to attend the award ceremony, where they will be awarded their prize.

Once the final 24 winners have been announced, the public vote will be open where friends, family, colleagues and acquaintances can all vote for who they believe is most deserving of our top accolades. The two winners (one from each category) will be decided based upon 50% of public vote and 50% of our judging panel.

The final nomination deadline is midnight on 23 September and the shortlist announcement and public vote opens on 31 October. The public vote closes on 14 November.

The 2016 awards ceremony will take place on 29 November at UNISON Centre in London.
